Hopes and Dreams

by Ayumi AMANO & Ikumi BAN

Everyone has a dream.

Now we are third grade students are not so far away. We must start thinking of our next step. What dreams do we have for our future?

We asked 229 Nagoya International Senior High School students about their dreams. The answers were interesting. 16 per cent said that they wanted to get married. One student wrote: "I want to be a good father and husband."

Entertainment was an industry that 11 per cent of students said they wanted to join, but many were not sure what type of entertainment. Ten per cent of students want to be a successful sports person.

Six per cent of students want to work with animals. The same number want a job where they use English and be a public servant of some type. Five per cent want to live in another country and be rich. One student whose dream was to be rich also wanted to be 'big'!

Three per cent of students want to be a doctor, hairdresser, make-up artist or work in the food industry. Two per cent said they wanted to work as a kindergarten teacher. One per cent want to go to university.

14 per cent said that they wanted to work in other kinds of jobs but did not really say what industry.

We also got some funny answers. Some students said their dream was to join "EXILE". Another student wanted to be a peanut. Our favorite was the student who wants to graduate with a skin head. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Thank you everyone for answering our questions. It was very interesting.

London and Paris

By Junpei NISHIKAWA & Masayuki NAGAYA

We carried out a survey about the London and Paris trip that the regular course second grade senior high school students went on this term. Although not everyone answered, we got a response from 78 students.

We were interested to know if the students have been to other countries before. We asked them if they had been overseas and we 70% of students said "yes". It means that it is easier to go abroad than before.

Next, we asked them: "Did you enjoy the London and Paris trip?" Only two students said they were bored. Most of the enjoyed it, 31 people said it was "very fun" and 30 students said it was average and ten students said it was "not so bad". We concluded that the school trip was satisfactory.

We asked the two students who said they were bored, why they felt that way. One student said: "It was a disappointment." And the other student said: "I was scared to fly." It means that there were not personal conflict during the trip, everyone got on well. Personally, I think that flying is horrible too.

Our next question was: "How much did you spend?"

Three students spent over 150,000 yen. We were surprised by this result. We can't imagine spending so much money in a short time! Most student spent 50,000 yen and about 15 students spent 100,000 yen.

Our final question was: "What impressed you most on this trip?" Some students answered: "I was surprised by the Eiffel Tower." And many students said: "I bought many clothes."

The school trip was a success!

Good Hair Days and Bad Hair Days!

By Mai ONODA

Although I do not take a long time to do my hair, I have friends who spend about 20 minutes everyday on their hairstyles.

I took a survey to find out how long Nagaya International Senior High School students spend on their hair everyday. The longest time for a male student to spend on his hair is 15 minutes. But, on average, boys do their hair in about 5 minutes. The shortest amount of time boys spend on their hair is about three minutes. I think it is not necessary for boys to take time on their hairstyles. I think they need only mend their bed-head. Bed-head is when one's hair curls the wrong way when one sleeps.

Most people who take a long time over their hairstyle are girls. On average, girls take about 20 minutes to do their hair. The least amount of time girls spend on their hair is five minutes. I think girls take a long time because they roll their hair, wash their hair in the morning and mend bed head. It is like make-up for them. I think we don't need to spend so much time on our hairstyle, make-up before going to school because school is not a fun place. We also have to come to school early and doing our hair takes too much time. We need to only mend our bed-head. Except those who have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Our School Nurse

Nurse Nishida

By Hirohito HOSOE & Osamu HIOKI

We interviewed our school nurse, Ms Takako Nishida.

She worked for a company for two years before she took her health nurse qualification. Now she has been working in our school for 25 years.

About 30 students use the nurse's room every day, but some days more than 30 students use the nurse's room. A long time ago, girls visited the nurse's room more than boys but now it is almost the same number.

They go to the nurse's room because they have stomachaches, headaches and emotional problems. Students who are troubled talk with teachers there. Students who have physical problems sleep in one of the beds for about one hour.

When there are no students in the nurse's room, nurse Nishida does paperwork. She thinks students should learn more about the right life style.
