Second Graders visit London

By Miles BEASON

(Nagoya, Japan) Early on the morning of April 19, 2006, a group of over 60 middle school students from the Nagoya International Junior High School, some of their teachers and tour guides departed from Nagoya's new Chubu International Airport for London, England. While many of the students have traveled overseas before, some had not, and certainly most of the kids had never traveled overseas before without their parents. This trip, all of the students would have the chance to tour London freely in small groups, in addition to having activities as a large group.

After getting into their hotel rooms, eating supper and having a night of rest, the group was off to Bath, England. All of the students enjoyed the green scenery in and around Bath. At the end of the day, the students had supper at the famous Bath University.

After another night of rest and a famous 'English breakfast' the students visited Stonehenge. Nobody seems to really know much about who built Stonehenge or why and a lot of the group seemed to feel that this part of the trip was a bit boring.

The next day the group went to the world famous Eton school. This is the school that the richest and most famous people in England attend when they are young, including the Royal Family. The school and trip to the school seemed to be interesting to the students.

The following two and one half days were spent in free activities by the students. They toured at their own pace in groups of six. Most students were worried about finding the places they wanted to see but it seems everyone did fine. One problem was finding interesting places to eat that were also cheap so fast food restaurants were popular. Probably most of the students saw Buckingham Palace, Parliament and Big Ben. Otherwise, different groups did different things.

Finally, after six days in England, the group boarded an ANA flight for Narita airport where they completed immigration before finally arriving in Nagoya. Most of the students were tired but probably wanted to stay longer.
