Sports day beats the rain

By STAFF WRITER

The third annual Nagoya International Junior High School sports day was held on Saturday 27 May. The day started with dark skies and rain threatened all day but all events were completed before the rain fell. In a repeat of the rehearsal, the green team were the victors, this time narrowly ahead of the yellow team. The day was very enjoyable and all students competed hard and fairly.

The event program was changed to the rain schedule so all track events took place in the morning. A highlight of these events was the girls’ 1000m event were young Akane Yamada took the tape ahead of many older rivals. The final event of the morning was the team relay. This was the only event that teachers participated in. Their team was soundly beaten into fourth place.

In the afternoon the fans were treated to a great display of high jumping. Yoshinori “Robin” Ogiyama, who cleared a height of 155cm, eventually took the title. To round off the day each team took part in the Tug of War. A victory for the yellow team here made for a very close finish. The final result was the red team in fourth place with 370 points, the blue team in third with 376, a close second was the yellow team with 397 and in first place the victorious green team who scored 403.
